3 Items To Put In Storage When Staging Your Home

Posted on

If you have made the decision to put your home on the market, you probably want the property to sell quickly. Staging can be a valuable tool when it comes to encouraging potential buyers to make an offer on your home.

In order to properly stage your residence, you will need to eliminate certain items from the home. Place the following types of items into a self storage unit while staging your home to show the property in its best light.

1. Personal Items

The purpose of staging a home is to show potential buyers how the space within your home could be used. You want the buyers to be able to see themselves living in the home as they walk through the property during a private showing or open house.

It can be difficult for a buyer to see themselves in the home if all they see are your personal items. Pack up any family photographs, trinkets and memorabilia, children's artwork, and other personal items and place them in a storage unit until your home sells. Eliminating personal items could reduce the amount of time your property is on the market.

2. Worn Items

You don't want to leave any worn items in your home when you are staging the property to encourage a quick sell.

Area rugs that show signs of foot traffic, furnishings that have been scratched by a cat or faded by the sun, and old bedding should be placed into storage while your home is on the market. Leaving worn items in the home can make it feel older and more rundown than it really is.

Many companies rent furniture and accessories on a short term basis to homeowners looking to stage their property, so you can showcase your home at its best.

3. Clutter

Clutter can be a real buzzkill for potential buyers walking through your home. As you stage the property in preparation for a showing or open house, be sure to eliminate any clutter that might negatively impact the appearance of your home.

Closets that are filled to excess with towels and linens should be emptied out. Cleaning supplies and junk drawers should be packed up and prepared for storage. Bikes, ATVs and other items that could be cluttering up the garage need to be removed and placed into storage.

The presence of clutter in the home can give the impression that there isn't enough storage space, which could discourage buyers from making an offer. Placing excess items into storage is a great way to eliminate clutter.
